About The Role We are seeking a flexible, dependable person who is eager to take on new challenges and is dedicated to providing excellent service to the people and organizations we support. The Food Rescue Coordinator will be responsible for the pickup of food donations and delivery to recipient agencies and individuals. The driver is also responsible for maintaining a good working relationship with our food donors, recipient agencies, home delivery clients, and members of the community. Essential Functions • Pickups and deliveries made using organization’s vehicles • Continuously strive for efficiency, safety, impact, reliability and responsiveness • Ensure all food acquisition and distribution is tracked and easily reportable • Help maintain truck fleet, coolers, freezers, and other equipment Relationships/Communications • Develop an understanding of food donor/recipient needs and expectations • Build, develop, and maintain positive relationships across the team and with both new and existing food donors/recipients • Must be comfortable working with people from diverse ethnic, educational, and professional backgrounds Skills and Requirements • 3-5 year(s) professional experience • Experience operating commercial vehicles (up to 26’ box trucks and 26,000 lbs. GVW) on narrow city streets and in traffic conditions • Experience operating powered pallet jack • Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly • Personal honesty and integrity • Confidence and decisiveness balanced with an open, collaborative work ethic • A valid driver’s license and clean driving record a must • Willing to work in all weather conditions in all seasons, including inclement weather, extreme heat and cold • Must be able to utilize mobile devices for daily record keeping About the Organization Food For Free is a Cambridge-based, non-profit organization dedicated to providing the Greater Boston community with reliable access to fresh and nutritious food. We accomplish our mission through food rescue, partnerships with schools, colleges, and traditional food organizations, as well as our own direct service programs. In 2019, Food For Free distributed more than three million pounds of nutritious food and reached more than 30,000 people throughout Greater Boston. Food For Free has seen sustained growth over the past 8 years, tripling food distribution, establishing multiple new school-based programs, adding 3 additional vehicles to our fleet, and significantly increasing staff in all departments. In 2020, Food For Free distributed over 3 million pounds of food to families in need. Food For Free is a flexible, innovative organization.
