SOS Earth: Act Now Portland - Portland has declared a climate emergency. Now let's make sure they're acting like the truth is real. In July of 2020, Portland adopted a climate emergency declaration. However, we think it's inadequate to create the sort of change needed to avoid the worst of climate change. So we're asking them to amend it. Extinction Rebellion demands the government act to get Portland to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2025, not 2050! Further, we demand a citizens assembly on climate and ecological justice to ensure this transition is not only just, but democratic. If we act now, and with a sufficient non-violent movement, we may even get President Biden's attention as well. He also must declare a climate emergency, act as if the truth is real, and create citizens assemblies! At this event: We will gather on the Portland waterfront at the Bill Naito Legacy Fountain at noon. After a short rally, we will walk to a nearby location where some rebels will perform a disruptive, peaceful, nonviolent act of civil disobedience.
