HARLEM, NY — Members of the City Council wield enormous power over what happens in New York, and Patch wants to hear from Harlemites about what issues matter to them in this year's elections. The neighborhood is set to host at least two competitive races this year. In West Harlem's District 7, incumbent Mark Levine is term-limited, and 14 candidates are running to replace him. In neighboring District 9 in Central Harlem, 12 candidates are vying to replace Bill Perkins, who could run again but has given no indication that he will. And in East Harlem, incumbent Diana Ayala is seeking another term against challenger Tamika Mapp. Ahead of the June 22 primary election, we're asking readers to weigh in about what issues matter to them in the neighborhood. What problems are going unaddressed? What good programs should be built upon? Fill out the survey below, and we'll ask the candidates to respond to the issues you raise: To learn more about the candidates, read our past coverage of the District 7 and District 9 races. For ongoing coverage of this year's City Council races, subscribe to the daily email newsletter from Harlem Patch.
