MERIDEN, CT — An armed robbery suspect was shot by a police officer at the Flamingo Inn in Meriden on Friday morning, according to officials. Meriden police responded to the Flamingo Inn, 1601 North Broad St., around 9 a.m. to assist the West Hartford Police Department with serving an arrest warrant for 24-year-old Kenneth Strothers, officials said. While police were attempting to take Strothers into custody, officials said he ran from a room and a chase involving officers from both West Hartford and Meriden took place. A confrontation took place "resulting in Struthers being shot," police said in a news release. A gun was found at the scene, according to police. Strothers was immediately provided medical treatment and taken to the hospital, where he was still being treated as of Friday night, according to police. The incident is being investigated by the New London State's Attorney's Office with the assistance of the Western District Major Crimes Squad. Connecticut State Police were called to the scene to assist with the investigation early Friday afternoon. Police advised motorists at the time of a "heavy police presence" that would be in the area of the Berlin Turnpike in Meriden.
