Delayed Moderna Shipment Will Force Petco Vaccination Site To Close For 3 Days

By Chris Jennewein, Times of San Diego February 12, 2021 San Diego County public health officials announced Friday that delayed arrival of an expected Moderna vaccine shipment will force the Petco Park vaccination super station to close for three days. No vaccinations will take place at Petco on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Appointments will be automatically rescheduled though UC San Diego Health's MyChart system. Vaccinations at other county sites could slow until the shipment arrives on Tuesday, according to the county. The South County Super Station in Chula Vista has sufficient vaccine supplies through Monday as does the East County Super Station in La Mesa. The North County Super Station in San Marcos and other, smaller county vaccination sites have sufficient supplies to meet second dose appointments along with a limited supply of first doses. Officials said second doses will remain the priority for vaccination sites. The Centers For Disease Control and Prevention have advised that people can wait up to 42 days between doses and still achieve maximum immunity from COVID-19. Vaccine shortages are affecting other parts of California. The Dodger Stadium mass vaccination site and Los Angeles' four other city-run sites are closed Friday and Saturday.
