By Editor, Times of San Diego February 12, 2021 Minari, one of the top films in this year's awards conversation, begins to be offered through San Diego's Digital Gym Friday, but tickets already have sold out through Feb. 21. Currently tickets remain for showings by A24 Films from Feb. 22-25. The film follows a Korean-American family that moves to an Arkansas farm in search of the American Dream, but the dynamics change with the arrival of their sly, foul-mouthed, but loving grandmother in the Ozarks. Daily 4 p.m. streams will be offered, with the viewing window open for four hours. The nonprofit arts center receives a portion of the proceeds if the $20 tickets are purchased through the Digital Gym site. Minari, directed by Lee Isaac Chung, already has received several honors, including the Grand Jury Prize and Dramatic Audience Award at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. The treatment of the film also has stirred controversy, as a major awards program, the Golden Globes, regarded Minari as a foreign picture. Though it was made by an American, the majority of the film's dialogue is delivered in Korean, which rendered it ineligible for consideration in either of the Best Picture categories. It did receive a nomination as Best Foreign Language Film. The Film Critics Association also named it the best narrative film of last year.
