Press release from the Novato Unified School District: February 11, 2021 Hello VLA Middle School Families, Student Shoutout! I'd like to send a shout-out to my whole class because there are too many to mention individually. Our students are amazing! They are thoughtful, polite, and supportive of one another. They take academic risks every day, jumping at opportunities to practice skills and speak up in class. Their comments and questions are wise and thought-provoking. Thank you, students, for the joy of learning alongside you! -Ms. Rivera (English 6 and History 6) Class Showcase Ms. Fried's English 6 and History 6: My students have been reading a nonfiction text about African American explorers and Adventurers. Each student was assigned a different explorer to research. On a shared group slide deck, students gave 3-5 facts, an image and told me what that person's legacy was. Here is a link to the Adventurers and Explorers assignment should you want to learn about these incredible people in history. We also created infographics to share what we learned in another nonfiction text on Hatshepsut. They gave 3-5 facts on Hatshepsut and images to go with each fact. Ms. Fried's Exploratory 6 Class: Students did an assignment where they learned how to create business cards using a Google Doc and they found quotes of kindness to enter on the cards. They also learned how to create calendars using tables in Google Docs. Youth Truth Survey for Parents Now Accepting Your Submissions We'd like your feedback – please take the Family Survey I am writing to ask for ~15 minutes of your time to complete an online survey that will help us improve your child's school. We have asked YouthTruth – a nonprofit organization that supports hundreds of schools and districts across the county – to conduct an anonymous survey on our behalf. We ask that one member of each household fill out the survey. If you have more than one child who attends the same school, you may respond to the survey multiple times – one time per child.
