Description

Press release from the City of Golden Valley: February 12, 2021 The Golden Valley City Council is set to hold a first consideration of a new pet leashing ordinance at its Feb 16 regular meeting. The draft ordinance will be published in the meeting agenda the evening of Feb 12. In early 2020 the Golden Valley City Council began considering updates to the City's pet leashing ordinance. The current ordinance allows pets to be off-leash in public spaces if controlled by voice commands. The first step involved taking public input in the form of a survey, which was active Feb 18–Dec 1, 2020 and gathered 625 responses. It revealed 70 percent (451 respondents) agree the City should have an ordinance requiring all pets to be leashed at all times in Golden Valley public spaces. It also revealed 61 percent (391 respondents) think 6 feet is an acceptable maximum leash length. For more information, visit the Animal Control page on the City website.
