CHARLOTTE, NC ­— A 27-year-old Gastonia man is being held in the Mecklenberg County Jail without bond after he recently threatened to kill President Joe Biden and other officials, according to a criminal complaint that was unsealed in court Thursday, federal prosecutors said Thursday. David Kyle Reeves made a series of phone calls to the White House switchboard between Jan. 28 and Feb. 1 and made threats to kill Biden and other federal officials, according to Andrew Murray, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina . Reeves, who was arrested last week according to jail records, was ordered held by a judge on Thursday after records show that he made the threats on multiple occasions. Reeves was charged in court with Threatening the President of the United States and if convicted, faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, prosecutors said. In one phone call to a Secret Service agent, Reeves reportedly said, "I'm going to come kill the President, I'm going to kill the Secret Service because I own this whole planet," Reeves said, according to an affidavit obtained by the Charlotte Observer. Reeves reportedly also dared the Secret Service to try to arrest him because his phone calls are protected under free speech laws, the paper reported. He reportedly said he would continue to make the phone calls. In other calls, Reeves is said to have threatened to kill members of Congress and told Secret Service agents to come get him and take him to the White House so he could "punch the President in the face, sit in his chair and stay there until he dies." The Observer reported that Reeves has a long history of violence, including assault, family violence, terrorist threats and several other criminal charges. Reeves court-appointed lawyer told the judge his client may be taking psychotropic medication, which he hopes Reeves still has access to while in custody.
