Heroes On the Water (HOW) - Space Coast Chapter Happy to serve our Veterans and First Responders (HEROES) in the Brevard County region. Targeted fish are Reds, Snooks, and juvenile tarpon, but there are plenty of other fish in the area. This event will be held at the Ballard Park, Melbourne, Florida. Parking will be first come serve. There are lots of park spots will an overflow in the green spaces. Expect to see our Heroes On the Water banner and flag. GETTING THERE: 924 Thomas Barbour Dr. Melbourne, Florida 32935 From Interstate 95, take exit 183 (Route 518 – W. Eau Galle Blvd.) and head east on FL-518 (W. Eau Galle Blvd.) towards Sarno Rd. for about .75 miles, and turn right on Sarno Blvd. and travel for about 3.9 miles. At the intersection turn right on N. Harbor City Blvd (US-1) merge into the left lane and travel for about 0.4 miles. Turn left on Thomas Barbour Dr. (Boathouse Discount Marine on your left). Travel for 0.6 miles you will enter the park and travel to the back of the park. Our group will be in the grass near the water. There is a boat launch, but caution should be taken due to heavy boat traffic. COVID-19 operations are still in affect or until further notice. So please monitor the 6-foot rules and minimize the opportunity to be at risk. Events are subject to change based on events outside of the Leadership Teams control. HOW Guests/Participants are NOT allowed to go kayak fishing during the event without a designated HOW guide and required safety equipment. You MUST wear your personal floatation device (PFD) the entire time while you are on/in the kayak. Food and drinks may not be provided, so we ask to be prepared to bring your own snack/food/drinks if you have special needs/preferences. Bring a lawn chair or something to sit on since many of our locations are primitive and may not have a place to sit. As a precaution, we suggest you bring a dry set of clothing, since this is water related event, and we never know about the weather/tides. Please be on time, since we can never tell the weather, or the tides could change our event. If you decide to not attend, please advise our staff via media, email or text. Sun protection is must so bring your own lotions and bug sprays. PADDLE. FISH.
