Cobb Schools Will Offer Virtual Classes For 2021-22 School Year

COBB COUNTY, GA — Cobb County School District parents will have the option to enroll their child in remote learning in the upcoming 2021-22 school year. The district will offer a virtual learning option for students when the school year begins Aug. 2, Superintendent Chris Ragsdale said during a board work session on Thursday. He said he believes the trend of school districts offering remote learning in addition to in-person classes may continue past the pandemic, because "some students excel" in the virtual learning environment. "If some students learn better in a remote environment and can excel quicker, then that's incumbent upon us to make sure we are providing that opportunity," he said. No other details of the upcoming school year have been finalized, district spokesperson Nan Kiel said. While Cobb Schools started the 2020-21 year in virtual learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in-person options were offered once again in October. About 66 percent of the district's families, or roughly 70,529 students, chose to return to in-person learning for the second semester of the year. A window will open Feb. 15 through Feb. 28 to allow families to choose between in-person or virtual learning from March 15 to the end of the year on May 26. Parents can choose options for their CCSD children on the district's parent portal.
