Description

The Phoenix is a 501(3)(c) organization that leverages fitness to combat issues related to mental health and substance use stigmas and feelings of isolation and loneliness through the transformational power of community. Our programs are led almost entirely by volunteers who are in recovery themselves and/or have a passion to give back to their communities. We embrace all pathways to recovery and only require participants to have 48 hours of continuous sobriety to participate. Events are FREE and open to the public. If you are in recovery yourself and/or connect strongly with our mission, we want to hear from you. Our LA division is expanding rapidly and we are seeking volunteers who can support or possibly lead the following events: Yoga/Meditation, Running, Cycling, Community Fitness, Kickboxing, Surfing, and more (the last two programs are currently in development but we are welcoming volunteers who are interested in participating)! Our locations are spread across LA County, but they are mostly concentrated in Westside and Long Beach. We are seeking volunteers in BOTH areas, but especially in Los Angeles. Our volunteers just lend 1-2 hours of the week as well. This is a great opportunity to hone your leadership skills to help a community that often struggles to find accessible resources. If you wish to lead a fitness event outdoors in your community, you must be certified in your respective discipline and hold an active CPR/AED certification. If you don't have the last one, we can support your training in it, fee waived by the organization. NOTE: All programs are held in outdoor spaces, social-distancing is enforced, masks are required, and PPE will be provided by staff to all volunteers. Learn more about us here:
