Faith Ringgold -- who lives in New Jersey! -- is a Black painter, artist, sculptor, quilter, and mixed media artist. Faith wasn't able to attend school until the 2nd grade because her asthma was so severe. Luckily, Faith's mom was a fashion designer who let her play with fabric scraps, and Faith was so creative and imaginative that even from a young age, she created vibrant works of art from the cloth. Later in life, Faith began making narrative quilts (that is, quilts that tell a story). One of her most famous narrative quilts is "Tar Beach," which depicts a child soaring over New York City. That quilt is the inspiration for our project and is part of the permanent collection at the Guggenheim Museum. Learn more about Faith on her website: https://www.faithringgold.com/
