RIVERHEAD, NY — A 37-year-old fugitive from New Jersey who was charged with sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13 was arrested Thursday by the Suffolk County Sheriffs Office, Sherriff Errol Toulon said in a release. On Thursday, investigators from the criminal investigations bureau received a phone call from the Bergen County prosecutor's special victims unit requesting help in apprehending a fugitive who was accused of sexual assault on a child under 13, Toulon said. Jorge Mora, 37, of Hackensack, NJ, was suspected of "taking asylum" in Suffolk County, Toulon's release said. Investigators set up surveillance and Mora was soon located and apprehended, Toulon said. Mora was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault by sexual penetration of a child less than 13 years of age; sexual assault by sexual contact of a child less than 13 years of age; and endangering the welfare of a child less than 13, Toulon said. Mora was turned over to Bergen County authorities, Toulon said. "Crimes against children are among the most heinous and I am pleased that Suffolk's deputy sheriffs were able to apprehend this fugitive quickly and without incident," Toulon said. "I want to congratulate our team for a job well done."
