Description
SUDBURY, MA — HOPESudbury and the Sudbury Restaurant Gift Card Drive group are bringing back a gift card drive this month to help residents struggling with food insecurity, and to help local restaurants.
Residents can buy gift card slots from restaurants at various levels. For each slot purchased, a portion will go to sending a gift card to a family in need, and a smaller portion will go back to the restaurant.
For example, buying a $100 gift card slot for the Wayside Inn would send $60 to a family in need and $40 to the restaurant. The $60 portion would also be spent at the Wayside Inn. Gift card slots are available in $40 and $100 increments, depending on the restaurant.
The first gift card drive was held last April, and raised $20,000 for local restaurants, plus food for hungry people. The first drive was a response to an increased need during the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic — a crisis that's still impacting the economy nearly one year later.
Find out how to participate in the gift card drive on this website. The event will run through Feb. 19.
Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly credited HOPESudbury as being behind the gift card drive. The drive was originated by the Sudbury Restaurant Gift Card Drive group and founder Gabrielle Henken.
