PALM HARBOR, FL — A Pinellas County Sheriff's Office deputy was charged with domestic battery and false imprisonment following a domestic dispute at his home in Palm Harbor Wednesday at about 4:45 p.m. Detectives began investigating the incident involving Deputy Jared Toro, 23, Wednesday at 10:15 p.m. During the investigation, detectives learned that late Wednesday afternoon Toro's girlfriend confronted him about infidelity. An argument ensued while Toro was putting on his uniform and getting ready for work and escalated into a physical fight. Toro is accused of holding his girlfriend against a wall and handcuffing her hands behind her back. Toro then removed the handcuffs and left the house. Toro admitted to handcuffing his girlfriend and detectives noted there were marks on her arms. Toro was arrested at 3:30 a.m. Thursday and taken to the Pinellas County Jail. He has been relieved of his position as a deputy and will be placed on administrative reassignment in a non-sworn position pending the outcome of the criminal case and internal investigation. Toro was hired by the sheriff's office on May 29, 2018.
