Description
BROCKTON, MA — A new noise ordinance was passed by the Brockton City Council on the night of Feb. 8. Households that are found to have produced an overabundant amount of noise between specific hours of the night can now be hit with a $300 fine after one warning.
Councilors who supported the ordinance said they hope it can help to eliminate the unreasonable amount of noise caused by parties and fireworks late at night.
However, other councilors wonder if the ordinance is misguided. Some wonder if a sound ordinance is reasonable in a loud city, while others argue that the ordinance will disproportionately single out people of color.
