MBTA Turning 4 Green Line Stops Into 2 On Herky-Jerky B Branch

BOSTON — The MBTA will turn four stops into two along the Green Line's B branch, a yearlong project aimed at cutting out some of the herky-jerkiness along a slow stretch of the line. The MBTA said Thursday morning Babcock Street and Pleasant Street stations will become a new Babcock Street Station, while St. Paul Street and BU West stations will become Armory Street Station. The new stops will be fully accessible, have longer, 225-foot platforms and feature fencing between the platform and road. "This station consolidation project will streamline trips for riders and provide safer, fully accessible platforms," said MBTA General Manager Steve Poftak. Work will begin Monday and be from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on weekdays and 24 hours over the weekends during the next 12 months. Service between Babcock Steet and Kenmore stations will be shut down for most weeknights and weekends, replaced by shuttle buses with stops at Route 57 bus stops.
