BEVERLY, MA — Beverly students are invited to have their voices and emotions heard with the possibility of cash prizes through the Beverly Public Library's annual poetry contest for middle and high school students. The contest — run through the support of the Friends of the Beverly Public Library — is open to middle and high school students who live and attend school in the city. A panel of published local poets will judge the poems with all finalists and their teachers invited to a ceremony in April where finalists will have the opportunity to read their poems. Winners will be announced on April 28. Cash prizes go to first, second, third prize and honorable in categories for grades 6 through 8 and high school. About 30 poems will also be published in a booklet that is distributed at the ceremony and kept in the library's permanent collection. Submissions are due on March 3 by 4 p.m. with each student able ot submit up to three poems. Each poem must be original work and must have a title. Poems can be submitted online here.
