Press release from the City of Santa Cruz: February 9, 2021 SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — At today's City Council meeting Santa Cruz Mayor Donna Meyers awarded $18,439 to local nonprofit Hope Services on behalf of Parking for Hope, the City of Santa Cruz and the Downtown Association's holiday program. The donation included Park Mobile's generous contribution of parking application transaction fees. Each year since Parking for Hope began in 2014, funds have been collected from Dec. 18 through 25. The usual parking rates apply, however, the proceeds from street meters during these eight days are designated for donation to Hope Services, a Santa Cruz organization that provides training and support services to adults with developmental disabilities. The total amount awarded to Hope Services over seven years of the program now tallies $202,525. The funds increase opportunities for Hope Services workers who help to keep downtown streets clean and welcoming. The work not only gives Hope Services' clients a sense of responsibility and community involvement, but also greater financial independence, an expanded social network and continuing skills development.
