PLEASANTON, CA — If you've spotted large felines lurking about Pleasanton, police assure you not to worry too much.
Police have recently received several reports of mountain lions slinking around local trails. The animals are bobcats, which are generally not a threat to people, police said.
Bobcats have a shorter tail and are smaller than mountain lions. They tend to feed on rats or squirrels, police said.
Anyone who spots a bobcat that appears to be sick, injured or approaching a person should call police for help at 925-931-5100.
