LBUSD Employee Vaccine Effort Continues

Press release from the Long Beach Unified School District: February 12, 2021 PHOTO: VACCINES – McBride High School teacher Dithmar Rualo was the first LBUSD teacher to receive a COVID-19 vaccine during a drive-up clinic at the Long Beach Convention Center in partnership with Long Beach Health and Human Services. School Nurse Rose Van Meeveren administered the vaccine. The Long Beach Unified School District continues to partner with Long Beach Health and Human Services to offer COVID-19 vaccines to all employees who wish to be immunized. So far, at least 2,000 employees have been offered vaccination appointments at three clinics offered by LBHHS specifically for LBUSD employees. Vaccine supplies became more limited in late January when California began prioritizing people 65 and older. The Health Department will provide additional vaccines to LBUSD employees as supplies allow. Employees are not required to receive the vaccine, but the Health Department states that vaccination is a safe and effective way to prevent disease and save lives. Additional information on clinic appointments will be shared via email with employees as vaccine shipments arrive. In the meantime, a list of frequently asked questions and answers about the vaccine is available at longbeach.gov/health.
