KENOSHA COUNTY, WI — An Illinois teen accused of killing two men amid protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last summer is expected to appear for a hearing Thursday afternoon. Prosecutors are asking Kyle Rittenhouse to be taken back into custody and his $2 million bail increased by $200,000 after they say he violated conditions of his bail when he did not provide his current address to the court. Meanwhile, Rittenhouse's attorneys say they'd provide Rittenhouse's new address if it stayed under seal as the teen has been subject to threats, which have "forced him into hiding," according to the Associated Press. Rittenhouse is expected to appear before Kenosha County Judge Bruce Schroeder for a bail/bond hearing at 1:15 p.m. The court hearing is expected to be broadcast live via Zoom as has been the case with past hearings. Rittenhouse was arrested in late August at his former apartment in Antioch. The Illinois teen has since been cast into the national spotlight, portrayed by some conservatives groups as a patriot for traveling from Antioch to Kenosha after seeing a call on a social media page to protect businesses in the town amid protests in the days following the police shooting of Jacob Blake, a black man who was left paralyzed. Rittenhouse brought an AR 15-style gun with him and is accused of fatally shooting Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, of Kenosha, and Anthony Huber, 26, of Silver Lake, Wisconsin, on Aug. 25. He also shot and wounded Gaige Grosskreutz, 26, of West Allis, Wisconsin, according to a criminal complaint filed in the case. Rittenhouse is charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide, use of a dangerous weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon.
