DePaul WBB Holds Off St. John's 81-73

DePaul's road trip continued with a trip to Carnesecca Arena to face St. John's. For the second time this season, the Blue Demons beat the Red Storm. This time, DePaul won 81=-73. Despite leading the entire game, it was a hard fought battle. After DePaul jumoed out to a big early lead, St. John's actually outscored DePaul 59-56 through the final three quarters. Still, the final is all that matters and DePaul's 11 point first quarter advantage was enough to offset the final three quarters of St. John's. DePaul held the advantage in second chance points (20-6) and fast break points (16-12). St. John's bested DePaul in points from turnovers (21-16), points in the paint (46-42) and points from the bench (13-7). For the game DePaul shot 50.8% from the field, 15.4% from three point land and 77.8% from the free throw line. Meanhile, St. John's shot 49.3%, 28.6% and 69.2% respectively. Sonya Morris paced DePaul with 21 points. Deja Church was next with 18, followed by Lexi Held (14), Jorie Allen (11), Dee Bekelja (10) and Darrione Rogers (7). Rogers led the team with 12 rebounds, while Held and Bekelja had 8 assists each to lead the team. Keilani Correa led St. John's with 33 points. Only two others had double digits for St. John's. Kadaja Bailey had 12 points and Raven Farley had 11. Coming into the game, DePaul was ranked No. 22 in the Associated Press Top 25 and the USA Today/Coaches poll. DePaul is now 11-4 and 8-2 in the BIG EAST Conference, trailing only UConn in the conference. For their next game, DePaul returns home on Monday, February 15 against Seton Hall.
