Sheriff Ron Abernathy said in a social media statement that people should verify and contact the company on the sheriff's office's list of licensed bonding companies approved to conduct business within Tuscaloosa County prior to engaging in any type of business, contract, or making payment to any bonding company.
"These companies are also aware of the scams and welcome your scrutiny," he said.
Those who believe they may have been a victim of a bonding scam are asked to contact the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division at (205) 464-8650.
