Habitat Restoration Crew Chief 21-05 RECON Environmental, Inc. is a company of specialists representing one of the largest and most established environmental service firms in the Southwest. Founded in 1972 with the emergence of the National Environmental Policy Act and the California Environmental Quality Act, we have provided nearly four decades of continuous service to our valued clients in the public and private sectors. Due to our continued growth, we are currently looking to add a full-time Habitat Restoration Crew Chief. Specialized field crews are created to complete specific tasks such as plant propagation, plant salvage, plant translocation, herbicide application and weeding. The ideal candidate for Habitat Restoration Crew Chief will possess supervisory skills, preferably in a similar environment. Minimum Qualifications & Skills • California Driver's License with a good DMV driving record. • Excellent verbal communication skills. Spanish/English. • Required to have experience/knowledge of typical field crew tasks including planting, weeding, herbicide application and erosion control. • Must be able to stoop, stand and bend for extended periods of time and work on uneven and/or difficult terrain in environments of fluctuating temperatures. • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and be able to use required equipment such as line trimmers, spray equipment, etc. • Frequent overnight travel outside of the county will be required. • Knowledge of California native plants is highly desirable although not required (training will be provided if necessary to applicants willing and eager to acquire plant identification skills). • Advanced irrigation skills highly desirable. Organizes and directs field crew team of 2 individuals. • Ensures crew members and all necessary supplies and equipment arrive to the job site each day on time. • Has the ability to motivate and mentor field crew; will also be responsible for teaching plant identification and other skills, including proper use of tools and equipment (e.g., line trimmers, spray equipment). • Maintains a safe and professional work environment. Ensures that crew takes the necessary breaks during the day. • Maintains and turns in accurate daily logs, including description of work performed and herbicide usage reports. • Responsible for ensuring that equipment, supplies, and tools are stocked, organized, properly maintained, and in proper working condition. Reports damaged or faulty equipment to a Supervisor immediately. • Knowledgeable of specialty planting requirements, including the layout of habitat types and the planting of unique individual plant species. • In addition to Field Crew Chief responsibilities, will also perform following: Field Technician duties: planting, hand weeding, trash clearing, raking, salvaging of plant material trenching and erosion control, hauling rocks, and any other miscellaneous construction work.
