*PLEASE READ ENTIRE POST BEFORE CONTACTING! We rescued this guy on 01/23/2021 who was believed to have been dumped on 01/20/2021 in a neighborhood right next to the Maricopa animal shelter. Since, we have since tirelessly searched for owners with every resource we could utilize, and no one has come forward or provided any leads. It’s truly shocking, because he is a VERY sweet boy. He was covered in ticks & fleas, so we gave him a dual treatment, and he is now free of them. I’ve also groomed him, so he’s nice and clean! He is believed by the vet to be approximately 3 years old. We will be very specific about who adopts him, as he is in need of a very specific home. While he’s very sweet, he’s very timid with men. The first few days we had him, while he warmed up to me quite quickly, he would run and cower any time my husband moved around him, and was particularly afraid of his feet/boots. There is a high likelihood that he was previously abused by a man, and any men in your household will have to be understanding of this and go slow with him, at his pace. He since has warmed up to my husband and they’re pals, but it took a lot of patience, and mindfulness to build rapport and trust. He doesn’t seem to have *any* training or know any commands— I’m assuming he was previously an outside dog. I am a trainer, so I’ve been working with him on house training which he is doing well with. He would definitely benefit with someone willing to train him, or get him into a training program, which I would be happy to assist with. He’s been around children and other dogs while here, and has been great with them! We have been calling him Tucker, and he’s been responding very well/quickly to this name. There is a neuter/microchip event coming up that we will be taking him to so that he has both before he is adopted. We are putting this out there so we can start to review inquires, but we are in no rush— we want to ensure he goes to the perfect home.
