MASSAPEQUA, NY — The 10th Lidl supermarket on Long Island will be opening in Massapequa next week. So far, Lidl has opened stores in West Babylon, East Patchogue, East Northport, East Meadow, Oakdale, Lake Grove, Plainview, Huntington, and Center Moriches. There are also plans to open in Great Neck, Shirley, Riverhead and West Islip soon. The grand opening for the latest market 5601 Merrick Road will take place on Wed., February 17. The ribbon-cutting will start at 7:40 a.m. During the event, the first 100 customers will be presented with a special gift card ranging from $5 to $100 each and there will also be a Lidl food truck sampling snacks and juice available. The company will be partnering with the John Theissen Children's Foundation to raise money for kids in need on Long Island to donate 50 cents to the organization for every new myLidl member who signs up and sets Massapequa as their home store. The store will operate from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Sunday. "I welcome Lidl to Massapequa," New York State Senator John Brooks said. "Their commitment to Long Island has been steadfast to date and I look forward to them servicing the South Shore. "
