Volunteers Needed For New Hamptons Community Vaccination Center

EAST HAMPTON, NY — East Hampton town officials, working to get a community vaccination center open locally, are creating a volunteer database. East Hampton town officials said preparations are underway for the potential vaccination site, which could open as soon as authorization and vaccine doses can be obtained. The vaccination center would be at the former Child Development Center of the Hamptons building in Wainscott, which is now owned by the town, officials said. As it stands, with 7.1 million New Yorkers eligible for vaccinations and only 300,000 dosages received statewide per week, supply remains the critical issue, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has said. However, East Hampton officials want to be prepared to offer vaccinations within the town once supplies increase, as other existing vaccination centers aren't located in close proximity to East Hampton. Rep. Lee Zeldin recently called out for expanded vaccination access on the East End. Community members willing to assist at the vaccination center are being asked to provide theirnames and contact information to the office of East Hampton Town Supervisor Peter VanScoyoc by calling 631-324-4140 or by filling out a form here. Information will be kept on file and volunteers will be contacted when scheduling begins. Potential volunteers will be asked to specify areas of expertise or training, and how they wouldbe willing to help. Licensed practical nurses, dentists, EMTs, medical students, and related medical professionals may be able to take New York State vaccinator training and help to give shots. In addition to medical staff, volunteers will be needed in the following areas: traffic coordinators, security, greeters, intake/data input staff, information technology technicians, and assistants to help individuals fill out electronic forms.
