Description

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A group of unidentified parents and educators are holding a protest against the reopening of Howard County schools. Called Cars Against COVID: Parents and Educators for Safe Schools, the event will be held Feb. 16 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Participants are asked to meet at Howard High School where they will travel to the board of education and "make our demands" until educators who want to be vaccinated can do so before schools open. However, the Howard County Board of Education will be meeting virtually Feb. 16 for a work session and public hearing. According to the initiative's website, the unidentified organizers want "metrics-based decisions on when to reopen buildings" and when to return to distance virtual learning. They also want Howard County's board of education to "stand up to bullying from the governor and the Maryland State Department of Education." "This socially distanced protest will be held in our cars at the beginning, during transit from Howard High to the Howard County Board of Education, and once we reach the BOE," organizers noted on the website.
