Description
Vinos de Arganza, Lagar de Robla Mencia 2016 - Typically $12.99 but this week $9.99Mencia is one of Spain's rich heritage of grape varieties that is currently being revitalized. It is grown in the Bierzo region of north-west Spain and produces balanced, fruity red wines in the slate and granite soils. It's profile is a combination of Loire Cabernet Franc with the juiciness of a Beaujolais. Famous Bierzo pioneer Alvaro Palacios (who's specialty is the great Godello grape) prefers to describe Mencia as a combination between youthful Rhone Syrah and young Burgundy. Quite a praise.
How often to see 92 point wines below $10?
92 points Wine Enthusiast"Fully ripe blackberry aromas suggest raisin and prune without seeming overly heavy. A lively palate is full but not jammy, while this Mencía from a stellar vintage tastes of blackberry, black plum and cassis. Dark-fruit flavors persist on a rich finish alongside notes of prune and chocolate." Deal Ends Sunday
