SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A Livermore man accused of raping an unconscious woman at a San Francisco bus stop was released from jail Saturday after the district attorney's office dropped the charges against him, KTVU reported. Fidel Padilla, 41, was arrested in December after several people described a grisly scene to police: a man in his 40s, wearing dark clothing, had raped an unconscious woman at a bus stop in the Tenderloin neighborhood. One person in a passing bus yelled at him to stop, then people got off the bus to help the woman, police said. Officers received surveillance images of the man, then spotted and arrested him hours later, police said. She was hospitalized for unspecified injuries and released. San Francisco prosecutors were unable to find the victim, KTVU reported. Video from the bus did not corroborate eyewitness accounts and the man's DNA was not found on the victim or vice versa, KTVU reported. Read the full report here.
