KENDALL COUNTY, IL — Kendall County saw the highest population growth in Illinois over the past 10 years, according to a study by the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning. Only eight other counties had an increase: Champaign, Monroe, Kane, Will, Grundy, Williamson, DuPage and McLean. The U.S. Census data for 2020 is yet to be release, but CMAP said it based its findings on five-year estimates from the American Community Survey. Kendall County has a population of more than 118,000 according to the study. Between 2010 and 2019, the population grew by about 7,860, an increase of 6.65 percent. Champaign County grew by about 2.8 percent, Monroe by 2.38 percent, Kane by about 1.82 percent and Grundy by about 0.98 percent. However, the study showed troubling trends for the state as a whole. Illinois lost nearly 80,000 residents in 2020, marking the seventh straight year of population decline, according to new estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. The state's population is now 12,587,530, a decline of almost 2 percent since the beginning of the decade. Over that time period, West Virginia was the only state to see a higher rate of population loss. For more news and information like this, subscribe to the Oswego Patch for free.
