Description
ST. LOUIS PARK, MN — After protests erupted last summer in the wake of George Floyd's murder by a Minneapolis police officer, there were calls for a greater dialogue between citizens and the police. A Feb. 18 virtual town hall meeting featuring three local police chiefs will provide a forum for some of those discussions to take place.
St. Louis Park Police Chief Mike Harcey is scheduled to take part in the Hopkins Race and Equity Initiative (HREI) Town Hall Forum titled "Community Policing Today," which is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday Feb. 18. The event will be streamed on Facebook, available on Zoom and by phone.
Bill Wells, a diversity and inclusion consultant, will moderate the panel discussion. Scheduled to join Harcey on the panel are Hopkins Police Chief Brent Johnson and Minnetonka Police Chief Scott Boerboom.
The event is billed as a conversation on policing in our local communities. A question and answer session will follow the discussion, and questions from the community can be submitted the week prior to the forum to Alex Fisher at [email protected].
In addition to HREI, the event is sponsored by Hopkins Public Schools, City of Hopkins, the Hopkins Police Department and the Gethsemane Lutheran Church.
More details about the event are available on Facebook.
