Elmhurst School District 205 is entering a contract with SafeGuard to provide sixth through 12th graders with weekly saliva screening. It is set to start in early March.
The district is expected to spend up to $660,000 on the contract, which will be covered by an outside grant, according to a memo from Superintendent Dave Moyer.
The surveillance process was adopted by Ed Campbell, a molecular virologist at Loyola University Chicago. He is a school board member for La Grange School District 102, which has done testing for months and has been open to students all along.
District 205's testing is set to continue through the end of the school year. The cost is $11 per test.
