NORTH AURORA, IL — Some Kane County veterans can get in line to receive a coronavirus vaccine Saturday in North Aurora, with the Aurora VA Clinic set to receive a "special, one-time shipment" of shots.
Veterans who are 65 or older and enrolled at the Hines VA can call the Aurora VA Clinic at 630-859-2504 to schedule a vaccination appointment Saturday, according to a news release. The clinic is located at 161 S. Lincolnway in North Aurora.

Jason Zimmerman, superintendent of the Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission, said the clinic is receiving a "special, one-time shipment" of the Moderna's coronavirus vaccine.
The Moderna vaccine is easier to transport than Pfizer's vaccine, allowing the Hines VA to send shipments to areas that have not held a vaccination clinic for veterans, according to Christopher Wirtjes, chief of patient administration service at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital.

Wirtjes urged veterans to be patient when trying to schedule an appointment "as our phone lines will likely be a bit overwhelmed."
Veterans who receive a vaccine Saturday will be asked to return March 13 for a second shot, the release states.
