Mokgosi, who works in a masterful painting style, meticulously plans his research-based projects on topics such as nationalism, post-colonialism and democracy in southern Africa. Often taking Western history painting as a starting point, he puts the tradition upside down by offering complexity instead of stereotypes, and by asking pertinent questions instead of providing easy answers.
