By Los Angeles Times, Culver City Crossroads February 8, 2021 The number of coronavirus patients in county hospitals continued to drop, going from 4,607 on Saturday February 5, 2021, to a new total of 4,421, with 29% of those people in intensive care units. Los Angeles County posted 89 more deaths and 3,123 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday, bringing the county's totals to 1,146,450 cases and 18,044 deaths since the pandemic began. "Despite seeing some decreases, we continue to experience widespread community transmission in our county," Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said Feb. 5th. "The riskiest thing people can do is gather with others that don't live with them to enjoy the game. Please don't attend or host parties that could turn Super Bowl Sunday into super-spreader Sunday." LA County's hospitalization numbers have been in a continual decline after peaking at more than 6.ooo in January. According to the Los Angeles Times, the first month of 2021 saw 14,940 people lose their lives to the disease in California, bringing the state's death toll close to 41,000, signifying that at least 1 in every 1,000 Californians has been killed by COVID-19.
