Gardener-Groundskeeper San Diego Community College District Closing Date: 2/23/2021 Position Number: 002418, 003116, 002430 Location: District Position Type: Classified The Position: Applications are currently being accepted for Gardener - Groundskeeper in the Facilities Department. Hours are Monday- Friday from 5:30am to 2:00pm. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department's needs. Please note that an employee may be transferred to any site at the option of the Chancellor. Major Responsibilities: Qualifications: Desired Qualifications: Knowledge: Computer software/programming for advanced irrigation system Disaster preparation. Grounds maintenance and repair methods. Health and safety regulations. Pesticide and reclaimed water. Pesticide, fertilizers, and watering practices for plants and lawns. Plant and insect identification and growth habits of various types of plants. Pruning methods. Small engine and grounds cutting equipment operation, maintenance, and repair. Sprinkler system maintenance and repair. Tools, materials, equipment, and their practical use in grounds keeping. Skills and Abilities: Blueprint reading. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Operate grounds keeping equipment. Perform general grounds keeping and routine gardening work. Program, install, maintain, and repair advanced irrigation systems. Repair and maintain equipment used in grounds keeping work. Train and provide work direction. Understand and follow oral and written directions. License/Credential: Valid California driver’s license. Qualified Applicators certificate- desirable. Training and Experience: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. Licenses: Pay Information: Range 21 ($3,588.55 - $5,728.13) per month based on the current Classified salary schedule. New employees will begin on Step A ($3,588.55), Step B ($3,767.96) with 18 months of verified, paid, full-time equivalent related job experience or up to Step C ($3,956.37) with 36 months of verified, paid, full-time equivalent related job experience. For purposes of salary placement, 7.5 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of directly related coursework from a regularly accredited institution will be equivalent to one (1) year of job experience. Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the CBA. This position is FLSA Non-exempt (may accrue overtime).
