Mennonite Village is a well-respected not-for-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) with a 70+ year history. We are currently seeking a Full Time Grounds Supervisor to plan, implement, and maintain all landscape and grounds within the Mennonite Village properties while supervising the grounds maintenance staff and bus drivers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Plans, implements, and maintains landscape and grounds. Supervises employees, including scheduling, training, assigning work, counseling, and administering discipline. Assists Administrator in hiring, firing, and performance evaluation. Treats staff equitably, promotes a safe and harmonious workplace, and works to reduce staff injuries. Schedules and prioritizes grounds work for Grounds staff. Establishes preventative maintenance program; develop work standards, methods, and procedures for efficient operation. Supervises the maintenance of lawns, flowers, bushes, shrubs, and other vegetation. Supervises workers in the installation and repair of sprinkler systems. Maintains inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment used in landscaping. Advises superior concerning landscaping changes, additions, and modifications; computes cost of changes and reports to supervisor. Performs the duties of Grounds Maintenance I & II as needed. Requests information and/or assistance as needed. Participates in the rotational on call coverage for weather and grounds maintenance emergencies. Responsible for the treatment and removal of snow and ice on campus during inclement weather conditions. Ability to operate and maintenance all campus vehicles and equipment. Maintains and oversees the repair of all underground utilities. Maintains and ensures staff have current and active herbicide and pesticide licenses as required. Maintains and oversees all fleet vehicles so they are in good working order. Is responsible for the Resident Bus Transportation Program and oversees the drivers. Regular attendance and punctuality are an essential function of the job. Abide by the standards and procedures of the Mennonite Village Compliance and Privacy Program and Values and Expectations Statement. Abides by the HIPAA policies and reports to a supervisor, breaches (or violations) of our HIPAA policies. Immediately reports identified hazards or hazardous conditions to a supervisor. Immediately reports adverse events and near misses to a supervisor. Attends mandatory training on HIPPA and compliance annually. Nothing in this job description restricts management’s right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time. QUALIFICATIONS: Supportive of the Mennonite Village philosophy. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent. Five years of related experience in grounds care techniques or equivalent education. Demonstrated knowledge of horticulture, turf propagation, chemical application, and fertilization. Active CDL Driver’s License with passenger endorsement and the ability to maintain based on company and regulatory requirements. At least three years of successful supervisory experience or any combination of appropriate education, training, or experience. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and reading English. Ability to perform moderately heavy lifting up to 80 lbs. Ability to see, hear, feel, and smell within normal limits. Capable of prolonged standing and walking, working with ladders, bending, stooping, reaching, and operating power equipment. Ability to work with a variety of age groups, but especially the elderly. Ability to work in all weather conditions.
