Description

....a change of pace!! This is going to be a little long winded so bear with me. Austin has a lot of cool things music related but there's two factors that really put a damper on things; 1, the cost of housing / living goes up by the minute 2, traffic gets worse everyday First off, I always appreciate input from people which is why I do this and thank you to those that respond. I want to clarify a few things. I'm content with being a "hobbyist" i.e. I have no aspirations of making it "in the scene" at any time, anywhere. I'm looking a a better quality of life but still have access to a great pool of musicians to jam with from time to time. Austin has jam nights somewhere every night of the week and most of the jammers are really damn good...its just all the periphery stuff like the aforementioned traffic is what kills my vibe. I'm told (and read) that Tulsa is a pretty good place with great house prices but I still want to hear from the locals,,,whats the scene like? Here is a little video I put together of stuff I've done the past prior to COVID. I have tons more but this is what I had on file that was ready for a quick edit,,,and in case your curious, I did all the camera / video editing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxJj4CuXZYE&list=UUDNFdrGsZYhqxv8RM7YVyPA Here are some other videos from back in that day that are worth note: This was from my Peoria days. I tried to put something like this together in Austin but no go https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSS1603Oz1s What's the musician pool like there? Do you have any open jams? (NOT open mics, there is a difference) What genre's are most prominent there? i.e. classic rock, funk, blues, etc Are there a lot of venues for local bands? Are there any honky tonks and or any types of places to partner dance i.e. places to two-step, salsa, marengue, etc? I'm also a Navy Vet, how is the VA there? How's the crime rate there? Are there any "no fly zones" around Tulsa? Ok, so I think that covers all the basics. Let me know your thoughts and feel free to add to my list of things I need to know, should I take the plunge and move that way.
