Morrison Road Fire 100% Contained After Burning 535 Acres: Update

LAKEWOOD, CO — The Morrison Road Fire burned 535 acres in Jefferson County, fire officials confirmed Monday. The fire is 100 percent contained, but crews have been putting out hot spots and cutting down trees that were burned. The grass fire burned Sunday near Bear Creek Lake Park and Fox Hollow Golf Course. Someone started the fire either intentionally or by accident, West Metro Fire Rescue said. High winds and warmer weather helped the fire to spread quickly to the east, and Morrison Road was shut down in both directions in the area. No buildings were immediately threatened by the fire, officials said. Part of the mop up includes felling some trees along the Fox Hollow golf course. The Cottonwoods are very close to the cart path and are potentially dangerous, weakened by the fire, and pose a serious fall hazard. Crews patrolled the perimeter of the fire overnight, checking for hot spots. An investigation was underway. Anyone with information is asked to call West Metro Fire Rescue at 303-539-9531.
