SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — San Mateo residents may have to pass through carmeggedon before they see the other side of the pandemic. The conversion of the San Mateo County Event Center into a mass vaccination site, combined with ongoing construction projects figure to snarl traffic in coming months figures to snarl traffic. The Underground Flow Equalization System at the Event Center and the 25th Avenue Grade Separation Project will be monitored as the vaccination rollout continues, city officials said, noting they "could make temporary changes to traffic patterns due to volume." "We know these projects, and the increased use of the Event Center, may cause some temporary disruptions to our community," city officials said. "These vaccination programs are essential to public health and will help us overcome the COVID-19 pandemic." The county and private health care providers are using the Event Center for appointment-only COVID-19 vaccinations. Due to limited supply vaccines are only available for eligible patients with a prescheduled appointment. "Drop-ins are not allowed," officials said.
