Patient Medflighted After Interstate 93 Crash In Canterbury

CANTERBURY, NH — Canterbury firefighters as well as others from around the region were sent to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 93 south just outside of Concord on Monday. Just before 11 a.m., fire dispatch received calls about a pickup truck, off the side of the road, near Mile Marker 50. The truck, which had a driver and passenger inside, had crashed into a tree after leaving the high-speed lane of the highway. "Both occupants were conscious and still in the vehicle upon arrival," Chief Michael Gamache said. "The female passenger was removed from the vehicle and was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries." Did you like this story? The Penacook rescue team was called to assist and firefighters used the Jaws of Life to access the vehicle while also providing medical assistance. It took about 20 minutes, Gamache said, but they were able to get the man out of the truck. Dartmouth-Hitchcock's helicopter was requested and it landed on the Interstate and took the patient to the hospital with "significantly and potentially life-threatening injuries," Gamache noted. The highway was closed for around 25 minutes, he said. Along with the Penacook rescue, Concord firefighters, Tilton-Northfield firefighters, and New Hampshire State Police also assisted with the accident, Gamache stated. Got a news tip?
