Yummy Story Time UF/IFAS Family Nutrition Program's Yummy Story Time is a free program designed to encourage preschoolers to make healthy choices. Each session contains a book reading, songs, activities, and a craft that reflects the content of the lesson. Recommended for ages 3-5 Must follow CDC guidelines for social distancing and masks are required for all attendees and their caregivers. Preregistration is required. Limit 10 children per session Week 1: Germs are Not for Sharing We will talk about germs, including COVID-19, and how to keep them from spreading so that children don’t get themselves, their family, or friends sick. Our focus today will be the importance of hand washing. Week 2: Meet My Plate Children will be introduced to the food groups and encouraged to make healthy eating choices using My Plate. My Plate is the current nutrition guide published by the USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion. Week 3: Vegetables are Good for Me! The green portion of My Plate is vegetables. Children will learn vegetables are good for their bodies and delicious too! Week 4: Fun with Fruit The red portion of my plate is yummy and delicious fruit. We will talk about our favorite fruits and why it is important to eat a rainbow of fruits and vegetables every day. Week 5: Moo for Milk! Preschoolers will be "Mooing for Milk" as we introduce them to the blue/dairy section of my plate . We will talk about our favorite dairy products and how they help to keep our bones and teeth strong. Week 6: P is for Protein We will be introducing the purple/protein section of my plate. We will learn all about protein helps our bodies grow from our heads down to our toes!
