Description

Join us on a tour through the park while we learn interesting facts about insects . Face masks and social distancing are REQUIRED at University of Florida events. Limited tickets available and you must be registered to attend. Scientists have identified over one million species of insects globally and Florida is home to at least 12,500 of those identified. It is estimated that 80% of the insect species have yet to be discovered – putting the number of species close to 30 million! Insects are essential for the proper function of all ecosystems – they serve as food for other creatures, they are pollinators and recyclers of nutrients. They have a big job to do in such a tiny body! Join our UF/IFAS Extension agent and resident Bug Lady, Carol Wyatt-Evens, on a tour through the park while we learn interesting facts about insects as well as how to collect, identify, and appreciate all the 6-legged crawlers among us. For this walk, meet on the deck by the Environmental Center. Most appropriate for ages 12 and up. Instructor: UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County educator For questions or further information, please call 941-861-5000 or email [email protected]. If you require special accommodations to attend one of our events, please contact us in advance at 941-861-5000 or [email protected].
