Description

"Where Baseball Hits the Tracks" is a educational discussion on how railroads helped the expansion of our Great American Pastime, Baseball. The popularity of Baseball was growing just as fast as the expansion of the railroads, in fact we owe it to early railroads for today’s national sports phenomena. Early sports teams needed to travel farther distances and the means of travel was via trains. In fact, games were being scheduled according to train schedules. The intimate connection between baseball and the railroad extends beyond the necessity of travel to where baseball teams proudly adopted the names of locomotives and railroads. Did you know that the Denver Zephyrs minor league baseball team was named after the streamlined passenger train, the Denver Zephyr, operated by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad? Join us for this educational discussion to learn more about the connection between baseball team names and the railroad! Where Baseball Hits the Tracks is a collaboration between the Forney Museum of Transportation and the National Ballpark Museum.
