Palm Beach Gardens, FL -- Oprah Winfrey once remarked, "When you invite people to your home, you invite them to yourself." This observation speaks to the fact that a person's home is their sanctuary, a place that reflects personal tastes and comfort. Maitia Alvarez, Custom Interiors coordinator at Devonshire, an Erickson Living community at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, works directly with incoming residents who are eager to add a wide variety of special touches to their new homes. "I love what I do," says Alvarez, who joined the Devonshire team last February. "I thoroughly enjoy meeting our residents, hearing their stories, and helping them make their home truly their own." Each Devonshire apartment home features high-quality finishes, based on current market trends, including kitchen and bathroom tile, choice of granite countertops, built-in closet shelving, and crown molding in the living areas. Yet, even with these industry-leading design features, incoming residents may wish to customize their new home to meet their own unique tastes and style. "The sky's the limit," says Alvarez. "Our most popular upgrades include vinyl plank flooring, designer lighting, quartz countertops, and custom appliances. I also work with people to enclose patios, add walls, or even combine rooms." Constant resource In addition to working with new community members, Alvarez also works with people who are already living at Devonshire. "I help our residents make updates in the same way they would in their previous house, such as changing a paint color, or updating countertops and appliances," she says. Each vendor Alvarez works with is personally handpicked because of the level of service and the quality of the experience they provide when working with Devonshire community members. "We work exclusively with a contractor dedicated to Devonshire," she says. "They provide the highest quality work and fully understand the unique needs of our community." Making it personal Getting to know the residents she works with is one of the most import-ant aspects of Alvarez's job. "Design is very unique to each individual," she says. "Some people know immediately what they want, while others need some guidance on what they can do. I usually start by asking questions such as, 'What was your kitchen like in your house? What do you like about it and what would you like to change?'" For residents who aren't sure where to begin, Alvarez often asks to see an example of their favorite artwork or a photo of a room they love in their current house. "It's a great way to get to know a person's preferences even if they aren't sure themselves," she says.
