Port Students Recognized in 2021 Scholastic Art & Writing Event

PORT WASHINGTON, NEW YORK (FEBRUARY 2021)—The Port Washington Union Free School District (PWUFSD) announced today that seven students have been recognized in the 2021 Scholastic Art and Writing Competition for their exceptional artistic and literary talents. The students' work—juried based on technical skill, originality and personal vision—stood out among thousands of other student submissions. Paul D. Schreiber's Gavin Shaub received a Gold Key Award for his comic art, "The Vigilante Society: Jailbreak." As a Gold Key award recipient, Gavin has automatically advanced to the national level of the competition which will be announced on March 17. Congratulations to Port Washington's students who've received honorable mention: ● Gabrielle Wittels, photography, "Flutter Frenzy" ● Robert Pagliaro, editorial cartoon, "The Election" ● Samwell Nachimson, comic art, "Quaranteam" ● Angelina Livigni, painting, "Acne Stars" ● Emma Kobayashi, painting, "Sisters" ● Abby Hurt, painting, "A Winter Windshield" In promoting the arts and its importance to a well-rounded education, the district extends its utmost gratitude to Schreiber's art teachers, Miranda Best and Kris Murphy, who have been instrumental in the growth and success of our student artists, as well as the greater Port Washington community for their continued support of the arts. The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers is the national nonprofit organization that presents the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards and provides additional opportunities for creative teens to be recognized for their talents and to earn scholarships for their education.
