NORTH HEMPSTEAD, NY — Snow crews are on the ready to plow and salt roadways throughout the Town of North Hempstead on Sunday. Supervisor Judi Bosworth is encouraging residents to remain indoors and exercise caution as "driving conditions could be dangerous"and she requested that residents keep "as many vehicles off town streets as possible" to allow our crews to clear roadways. Bosworth requested residents wait until streets have been plowed to begin shoveling sidewalks and driveways, however, she noted that if they must shovel, to remember to pile snow to the left of the driveway and not to shovel or plow snow from driveways and sidewalks into the roadways. "This can create icy patches, and it's a nuisance to neighbors and a safety hazard to pedestrians and vehicles," she said. The Town cancelled Project Independence transportation rides, as well as Sunday residential drop-off for recyclables and non-hazardous waste. The Sunday residential drop-off has been rescheduled for Feb. 14, Feb. 28, and March 14. Bosworth thanked the town's workforce for their "extraordinary efforts during this challenging time, and of course all our first responders who are ready for all emergencies." Residents with questions or concerns, can call 311. To report power loss call PSEG-LI at 1-800-490-0075.
